The Hazelwood Hawks senior men’s team made an impressive start to life in the Basketball NI Division 1 league with an 82–73 victory over Omagh Thunder, a side that competed in the Premier League last season.
After a slow first quarter, the Hawks came alive in the second, led by Dylan whose defensive intensity completely changed the momentum of the game. His relentless pressure disrupted Omagh’s rhythm and sparked the team’s comeback, earning him the well-deserved MVP award.
On offence, Samuel led all scorers with 26 points, while Scott added 17 and Klaud chipped in 15. The team’s experience playing against zone defences in Division 2 proved invaluable, as the Hawks showed patience and composure to steadily break down Omagh’s 2-1-2 zone throughout the second half.
A strong collective performance and a statement win to start the season. The Hawks are up and running in Division 1.
