Another brilliant week across the club, with standout effort, leadership, and resilience shown at every age group. Here are this week’s Hawks Players of the Week, with quotes from our coaches:
U16 Boys – James Watters
Opponent: Phoenix BC
James delivered a strong all-round performance, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. His scoring, defensive pressure, and composure in tough moments set the standard for the team.
Coach Conor:
“James played well on both ends vs Phoenix. Coming up with big points and forcing numerous turnovers. His determination and leadership stood out especially during periods of the game we were down.”
U14 Boys – The Entire Team
Opponent: Phoenix BC
The whole U14 group earned recognition this week. Despite trailing by 15+ at half-time, the boys came out fighting, showing resilience, belief, and teamwork to chip away at the deficit. Their character made them impossible to split for the award.
Coach Tobi:
“We just couldn’t see passed the entire team this week. Down by 15+ at the half, they all came out to chip away at the lead and done just that. We all hate losing but the character our lads showed has to be celebrated.”
U18 Boys – Olivier
Opponent: BCW
Olivier continues to impress with his rapid development and willingness to learn. Assigned a challenging defensive role, he rose to the moment and made life difficult for the opposing point guard.
Coach Klaudijus:
“Olivier's only started but he’s showing great improvement and a desire to be coached. He had a defensive job on Sunday and pressured the BCW point guard very well.”
Senior Men – Scott McIlwaine
Opponent: UU Tigers
Scott delivered a dominant 27-point performance, scoring from the post, the perimeter, and everything in between. His versatility made him a constant offensive threat throughout the game.
Coach Andy:
“Scott was a triple threat on Tuesday night. 27 points which come from varied spots. Posting up, shooting from outside, drives from the perimeter. Just an all-around offensive threat.”
